Should you choose a dental HMO or a PPO plan?

Patients should consider what’s most important to them when making their decision. Generally, dental HMO plans require a primary dentist and only provide full coverage for in-network visits, but will usually have lower premiums than a comparable PPO plan.

What is the difference between DHMO and PPO dental insurance?

DHMO and PPO plans have one key difference. DHMO insurance plans typically cover dental services at a low cost and minimal or no copayments with a pre-selected primary care dentist or a dentist facility with multiple dentists. PPO dental insurance plans, on the other hand, offer a balance between low-cost care and dentist choice.

Do HMO plans cover dental treatments?

Like PPO plans, HMO plans may or may not cover these treatments. Among dental plans the network acronyms often have the letter "D" in front of them so instead of PPOs and HMOs, there are DPPO and DHMO plans. Don't worry. The "D" stands for "dental” and the guidance regarding the two network types still applies.
